With the bureau's help I'm not being harassed by creditors anymore
A young terminally ill client helped to live the remainder of his short life without the shadow of his debts hanging over him
A terminally ill 23 year old client, single and living in social housing was helped by the Basingstoke CAB over a two year period.
Initially, the bureau identified that he could make a claim for Disability Living Allowance and helped him complete the relevant complex form. He was awarded the highest rates available.
Having left work due to his deteriorating health, the client later returned in some distress; he had been told his medical condition was now terminal. He barely had enough money for his daily living expenses and although explaining this to his creditors he was facing constant harassment for payment. We referred him to our Financial Inclusion Fund caseworker who was also our Debt Relief Order Intermediary. His creditors are now unable to pursue the client for the debts which will be written off after 12 months.
